Principal accountabilities and activities
To act as a key worker for a group of residents under the guidance of a registered nurse To provide the highest standards of holistic care and attention for the residents To participate fully in the overall care of the residents lTo assist with washing, dressing, toileting and personal hygiene as per care plan To assist in maintaining safe levels of care and ensuring safe practice To help provide essential physical and mental stimulation by participating in recreational and social activities with residents individually, or in a group To assist in maintaining accurate records in accordance with registration and legal requirements To carry out instructions by senior staff in an efficient and conscientious manner To attend staff training, staff meetings and mandatory training To report any accidents relating to staff and/or residents as per procedures To ensure that the company policy on confidentiality is upheld To be respectful and courteous when dealing with colleagues’ relatives and other public and professional people To be prepared to undertake any aspects of care or non-caring duties as requested by nurse in charge To assist and facilitate in the welcoming and training of new staff members To assist in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring adherence to Care Services Health & Safety and Welfare policies and procedures Duty to whistleblow if witness bad practice or harm to a resident within the care home
Qualifications, training and experience
To have worked in a similar caring background NVQ Level 1 Good communication skills Ability to work within a team environment
Environment
All staff should bear in mind the overall objectives of the care home, namely that residents will be encouraged to maintain independence and choice in a homely environment which promotes excellent customer relationships.
This job description is intended to give the Care Assistant an appreciation of the role and envisage the range of duties. However, it is not exhaustive and may be reviewed from time to time.
Working Night Policy
All staff are required to remain awake at all times, so that they are able to provide the necessary cover in the home
Sleeping while on duty, including designated breaks is considered to be an act of gross misconduct, which may lead to dismissal
Sleeping on duty is considered to be causing risk of harm to vulnerable adults and as such, those dismissed for sleeping on duty may be referred to the Secretary of State for consideration to be placed on the Protection of Vulnerable Adult List, or the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act (Legislation pending).
